Going Gently Into that Good Night

I just finished reading Eternal on the Water for our book club tonight. Some things about that book just didn't work for me. I can't suspend my disbelief and I am not a romantic so the love affair just doesn't resonate. I confess that I googled for some information on corvids and on Chunkamunga Girls so I guess I was able to suspend some skepticism. The book's ending finishes what it started: the death of Mary. The author makes her choice of euthanasia sympathetic and compelling. I suspect as we continue to experience an overburdened health care system and a prouder more educated aging society, that euthanasia will become legal and acceptable. Certainly for our children it will seem like the only alternative. I'm of two minds on this. I understand why some want to end their lives but at the same time I believe life is not ours to choose when and where it ends. What are your thoughts on this?
