A Little Less Conversation and A Little More Action
I've always loved that phrase from an Elvis Presley song. My friend JS added it to his electronic signature. Because the temple open house and cultural event rehearsals were going to take up most of the fall, I did not register to complete my ESL Level One qualifications. An opportunity came up shortly after though to keep that door ajar until next semester.
VH and I volunteered to be conversation partners with some engineers from the Chinese Petroleum and Energy Company of China who are here studying English until early November. As their partner, we plan outings and to provide them opportunities to apply their classroom instruction to real events and to be introduced to some Canadian culture.
Our first outing we went to the Millarville Farmer's market where they bought a jar of clover honey which was as precious as liquid gold to them. We then went to see Big Rock. They were thrilled with the outing but what was even more exciting was climbing 10 ft high bales and taking their pictures atop with peace signs flashing everywhere.
They are so eager to learn the language and apply themselves to apply what they know with an envious focus. They are always smiling and so happy and it has been a rewarding experience for us to become their friends.
On a vain note: I love those rust red pants. Not so crazy about the middle aged spread that I can't seem to ditch.

As part of the Canadian culture experience, did you introduce them to poutine?
The pants are fabulous. Embrace the spread.
That day was perfect. Who would have imagined that bales of hay would become an international sensation. Form this day forward I will be filled with reverence and delight whenever I eat at a chinese restaurant.
