A Needle In Her Eye
Used to Be Mother has blood behind her eye. She needs an injection into her eye every month. Today was the day. She wasn't up for it. That old bird still has lots of pluck. She squeezed her eyes tightly. The doctor was brusque and impatient. When he couldn't get UTBM to cooperate, he hollered for his assistant to bring something I didn't recognise. I was surprised by his tone and if I had been his assistant I would have pretended I didn't hear him. She rushed in bringing a metal contraption to hold UTBM's eye open. She wasn't having any of that. She screamed. She whimpered. She squeezed her eyes even tighter. That petulent impatient doctor ripped of his gloves, took the metal piece out of her eye and said he wasn't going to fight with her. She didn't understand but knew she had failed in some way. All the way home, she whimpered how her eye hurt. She knew she had disappointed him but wasn't sure why. It's hard being an old lady sometimes.

It IS hard being an old lady, sometimes, and sometimes its just hard being a patient!!! It must be hard to be a doctor sometimes, who is having a bad day that day, and seems to hat their job.... just like every other human in the world who has had at least one bad day on the job! That said, your mom would deserve an apology from someone who has taken an oath to do no harm!!! Poor guy - and poor your mom, and poor you!! And then we remember how blessed we are and suddenly, it is ... lucky us!!

Oh Bonnie, that sounds dreadful. I wonder if that doctor has ever had a metal contraption jammed into his own eyeball before.
