Yesterday the cast came off - seven weeks stiffness all in those tendons. The flappy saggy
"wings"
under my arms look more like sails now. Not pretty. But even more disturbing were the bone density results. How does one go from just slightly osteopenia to
osteoporis
in six years? I am less that 60 and have the spine of a much older woman. Researching about this very frightening condition certainly made me want to tell all younger women to
stop drinking soda (I have been a big club soda fan for years),
take your calcium and Vit D (I never did),
weight train (I have for last three years but apparently without the desired long lasting results - or wait, maybe it could have been worse - I could have had the spine of a 90 year old instead of 70!) and
eat less animal protein (I am mostly carnivore and can't imagine a meal without meat). With this news and the arthritic knees really bugging me these days, discouragement about aging encompasses me. I feel an invisible wrecking ball rattling my foundation. Bette Davis was right:
"Aging ain't for sissies!"

okay, I'm going right now to have a drink of milk.
As soon as I read this I went and took another chocolate calcium pill -- and then need to start doing better with my Vitamin D. Do I really need to stop drinking Diet Coke?
Read Michael Polan's 'In Defence of Food' to assist you in making a transition away from animal protein - and then ask Julie for meal ideas - they eat better than most anyone and she eats no meat and Bart very little.
Hang in there Bonnie. You could stop where you are and not age again until you're 70. I have done all of the above (except drink the soda and meat every meal)and I'm still on the high end of osteopenia. I refuse to let that play a mental game with me. I'm already playing mental games way too much. I'm having fun with life right now. Glad the pesty cast is off.
we should have a "Shoulda, coulda, woulda night" and invite those that were born before us to share there wisdoms...
Good luck with the sticking to the rehabilitation of your wrist! I am off to pop some vit D and calcium...

Oooo love the idea of the shoulda, coulda, woulda night! What information we could share as women! Bonnie so glad your cast is off. You can strengthen that arm in no time, if I know you! My mom was just telling me how much Vit D and calcium we need a day and I was floored! I am more actively taking it too! Thanks for the reminder!
