Girls camp 2011! The heat and mosquitoes tested our endurance. The delicious food (pot roast and dump cake) didn't help the waistline. These girls made me laugh. Every day. They are bright, energetic, kind, obedient, noble, true blue. One doesn't want to kiss until she is married. The camp director set her straight on that. One learned that picking men is a lot like picking a cookie - appearances can be deceiving. One learned that though she has an attitude and is often prickly, she is still loved and lovable. One learned that no matter how much DEET you wear, the mosquitoes will still eat through your jeans and torment you. And one - the lovely HK - the camp director - made it all worth going. She's the honey for these bees. They surrounded her every day wanting her wisdom, approval and love. She made the heat, the horrid mosquitoes, the lack of running water, the nasty outhouses all worth while. If it every comes a time that we need to evacuate our homes and head to Missouri, I want to be in HK's group. We'll laugh a lot. We'll never be bored. And oh, we better have AW there too because that woman knows how to cook. Knows how to fill your soul too. I don't much care to sleep in a tent or run to the outhouse at 2 a.m. But seeing those stars light the immense heaven makes you want to sing "How Great Thou Art". To stand insignificantly under this beautiful canopy and feel his divine love is powerful, life-changing. I'm the luckiest woman to have been a part of this experience with these girls. Still, next year when it's ward camp, a cabin with flush toilets might be just as inspiring.

um.....dump cake?
sounds explosive.
No it's delicious. You dump cherry pie filling, pineapple, a cake mix, some coconut into a cast iron pot, add some butter and then set it into the smoldering coals for 45 minutes. Delicious!
