What I've Learned Being a YW Leader

1. Don't react. Ever.
2. Do know that a thank you will come - 20 years later.
3. Don't back down when dealing with THOSE ABOVE YOU. At least don't go down without a good fight.
4. Do show them their potential, the numerous possibilities, and a bigger view of their world.
5. Do be real. They can detect a fake a mile away. And from your being real, they can see how they fit into the picture.
6. Do encourage music. Even though that JP music can be really cheesy, those lyrics stick in their mind to remind them what's what.
7. Smile. Laugh. Fill your heart with their joy. It's better than botox.
8. Go to their games. Remember their birthdays. Visit their places of work. They are morified but secretly they love to be remembered.
9. Wear a good bra. They notice every saggy lumpy part of you with some disgust to what their future holds.
10. Do hard things. Have them do hard things. Encourage their character stretching.

and above all:

Pray that you are never released. You'll never have this much fun anywhere else.

Bonnie, This strikes me as being similar to motherhood - all the same things apply - especially your final statement!
