Treasures in My Closet

Today I had an unusual but very pleasant experience. A friend called to ask if her mother might borrow something in my wardrobe for a wedding they would attend later in the week. A few shopping outings had turned up nothing suitable.

I was flattered that they considered my wardrobe desirable. I was even more pleased they felt comfortable asking me.

Absolutely everything she put on looked fabulous. It's fun to see your wardrobe from another perspective. And in true BW fashion, I kept going back into my closet to see if I could find something else.In another life, I sold clothing. I was really good at it. I knew the store inside out and took it as a personal challenge to find something that customer would want.

Two hours later, my friends left with an armful of clothing. All of us happy. All of us learning something about ourselves and about each other. You can't put on someone's spanx or bathing suit without shedding some or all of your pretenses.

Who knew those treasures were there in my closet just waiting for a new friend?

I remember a dress you had on our mission that I loved. You let me wear it several times and when I left to come home, you gave it to me. I felt so skinny in it and felt good. I'm sure you'd remember it if I had a picture.

I love this. It's an intimate thing to share clothing. My friend, Peggy, let me borrow her black beaded jacket and it made me feel wonderful.
