Though I have gained more strength and mobility with this broken arm, shampooing my hair and doing my nails have not been pampering treats I can do with any skill or satisfaction. Yesterday my chapped hands and chipped nails were at an all time ugly. With a brazeness that overcomes me sometimes, I called my neighbor CH and invited her to give me a manicure. She graciously accepted (she didn't really have a choice did she?) When I arrived, she had a lovely warm bowl of water, towel and all her drugstore treasures: lotions, polishes, sticks with cotton pads, and cuticle remover just like a nail salon pro. She exfoliated, filed and rubbed and polished, until like magic, my hands appeared smoother, softer and sophisticated. Saint CH with the magical manicure softened my soul too and rubbed away some of the crust that collects there when I neglect gratitude.
Today I looked in the mirror at my hair. Flattened and dull, it really looked unkempt. So I stopped at my hairdresser after I went to the gym. I explained that I wanted a two handed scalp massage and shampoo. Some 45 minutes later I walked out with a perky 'do and a smile on my face. I am so shallow. No world peace and end to global warming in the things I think about.
Still I dare anyone not to think of a manicure and really good shampoo as unnecessary!

I can't stand manicures....so don't ever look at my nails. There is something about the feel of those tools on my fingernails that grosses me out!
But I do get the idea of wanting something to make you feel normal and pretty...especially with your broken arm
Oh, Bonnie......I was more than happy to give you a little pampering! Every girl deserves that once in a while......CH
I could not agree with you more. A shampoo and style are one of the truly great pick-me-ups. They've gotten me through many a rough week.
