The Unwanted Silver

Pup's team lost in the final CCAA national basketball tournament in Truro, Nova Scotia over the weekend. Their silver medals were like nooses around their necks during the award ceremonies after the game. Nobody wants silver as an outcome in competitive sport. It's like being second.

During the glum aftermath, they heard lots of advice from parents, coaches and fans:

It's great you made it this far.
Only a handful of teams can compete at this level.
You played your best.

Once these boys have some time and distance I hope they will see that silver is a worthy trophy.

Silver shmilver. It's so much better than "the sportsmanship award." Did they give those in Canada?

Silver is more than a pat on the head.

I hope Peggy's Cove was not shrouded in clouds.

My favorite place is Mahone Bay, south of Peggy's Cove.

Silver is better than "the sportsmanship award" they used to give in church basketball. They might as well stamp Big Loser on your forehead.

I love Mahone Bay which is south of Peggy's Cove.
